Why Do You Need A VPN in 2020?

15 October 2020

Home / Digital Technology / Why Do You Need A VPN in 2020?

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a program developed primarily to make your device anonymous when surfing the internet. Apart from this, there are several other reasons why you need a VPN.

Virtual Private Networks have been in use in the Chinese and Russian nations where access to the internet is extremely controlled. With a VPN, you can unlock and gain access to websites such as Facebook and Google, which are prohibited in some countries.

Here are detailed reasons why you need a VPN.

1. A Virtual Private Network Encrypts the Information Sent Over the Internet

When you browse the internet using a VPN, your online traffic gets encrypted. You become anonymous and nobody, including your ISP provider can monitor what you access or do online. With this, your internet service provider won’t restrain your internet speed or keep logs of your activities as you browse.

By encrypting sensitive data, including passwords or credit card details, a VPN can protect you from cybercriminals who may steal your information. A VPN is also useful when you are browsing using a public Wi-Fi network.

2. A Virtual Private Network Conceals your Device’s IP Address

Some online platforms that offer streaming and gaming services, such as Netflix, use IP addresses to establish your geographical position. When you connect to a VPN server, it’s the VPN’s IP address that will be visible to the sites you are accessing.

Since the sites won’t see your actual IP address, they won’t determine your location. That enables you to evade geographical blocks and allows you to torrent online videos. It implies that using a VPN, you can watch videos, play games, and access the internet freely across the world.

3. A VPN Protects an Organization’s Information When Employees Access It Remotely

If you are an employee working from home, you will need to use a VPN. Many companies require their workers to access online resources using a VPN as a security measure.

4. Some VPNs Protect you Against Malicious Content and Ads

Some sites can install malicious programs onto your computer or smartphone without your knowledge. Some VPNs are developed with inherent capabilities to detect and stop malicious content by obstructing websites containing such content. Other VPNs can also prevent ads, blocking malicious ads from damaging your computer by infecting the device with viruses.

In conclusion, Virtual Private Networks are necessary when accessing the internet for security and privacy reasons. VPNs help you access any blocked site on the internet securely. They also maintain your anonymity when you are browsing and protect your data against attacks from cybercriminals.
